Mahabalipuram

Mahabalipuram or Mamallapuram sits on a narrow strip of land between the Bay of Bengal and the Great Salt Lake on the coast of Tamil Nadu 60km south of Chennai. Richard must have been fascinated by this locale as he broke form and filmed monument after monument. Dwelling on the structures and carvings, doing what tourists do. Admittedly, Mahabalipuram has an impressive array of ancient architecture. The world-famous shore temple (see thumbnail) is over 1400 years old. But he didn't film Krishna's Butterball (check it out). A giant natural boulder perched on a rock slope and looking as if it would roll off with the slightest push. You'll have to go see that for yourself. It will look the same. It will all look the same.
